Mary Casey Identified as Fatal Victim of Austin Solo-Vehicle Crash

In the updated reports of a car accident that happened last week in Austin, Texas, authorities revealed the identity of the fatally injured female victim. The Texas Department of Public Safety, on Sunday, May 10, named the deceased woman as Mary Casey, a 29-year-old resident of Round Rock.

The DPS released in a statement that Casey was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that drove off Spicewood Springs Road and struck a tree. The collision claimed the woman’s life at about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle in question was a 2015 Honda Fit, with a male driver behind the wheels. The Honda was southbound on Spicewood Springs, maintaining an estimated speed of 35 mph. Officers said the vehicle suddenly drifted off the road just as the motorist negotiated a left-hand bend, and then collided with a tree located on the side of the roadway.

Emergency responders pronounced Casey dead at the scene when they arrived. The driver of the Honda, whose name remains undisclosed, sustained injuries, and medics transported him to St David’s Round Rock for treatment. The reports did not specify the nature of his injuries.

No other casualty resulted from the fatal encounter. Authorities used the solo-vehicle incident to reiterate the importance of obeying traffic control devices. The DPS also urged motorists always to wear seatbelts, minimize distractions, and avoid driving under the influence, or when fatigued.

Commuters must also endeavor to report car accidents as soon as they occur, to avail the victims a better chance of surviving the encounter by getting rescued in due time.
