A man was killed on Saturday morning and a woman received serious injuries in a two-vehicle smash-up on State Highway 276.

The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. about two miles to away from Emory.

A preliminary accident report reported that 41-year-old Garland resident Matthew Charles Harkins was driving east in a 2017 Nissan Versa when he went over the dividing line and hit a Ford F-150.

Sixty-six-year-old Debra Hallman of Quinlan was the driver of that vehicle.

Matthew Harkins was declared dead at the crash scene by a judge and he was transported to Emory’s Wilson Orworsky Funeral Home.

Meanwhile, Hallman was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Francis in Sulphur Springs. Her condition was said to be serious.

It is not yet known caused Harkins’ vehicle to go out of the correct lane and hit Hallman’s vehicle.

However, the Texas Department of Public Safety will continue to investigate the crash.

The authorities are likely to release more information when it becomes available.
