The Police in Texas arrested an 18-year-old identified as Kevin Lozano after a collision in Harris County left a child, aged 7, severely wounded. The suspect will require a drunk driving attorney following his arrest after the accident that occurred on Sunday, May 24.

The crash happened around 9:20 PM on Highway 6, which is close to Pavilion Point. Reports from authorities revealed that Lozano was on the wheels of a Nissan Maxima and headed south. With him were two passengers, a 7-year-old child, and the mother. Due to his failure to yield the right of way while turning left, he slammed the car into a Honda Accord.

The child, who was without a seatbelt, sustained head injuries, while the woman also suffered a broken leg. When paramedics arrived at the crash scene, they immediately flew the 7-year-old to a hospital using LifeFlight.

Meanwhile, Lozano, who wasn’t injured from the collision, fled the scene. Eyewitnesses pursued and caught him. Police arrested the 18-year-old, and after interrogation, he admitted to drinking.

A spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Sean Teare, said that the police charged Lozano for failure to stop and render aid, as well as intoxication assault. There is a possibility the charges will be upgraded to felony murder if the child does not survive.

It is a crime to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Doing so could lead to fatal road accidents and critical injuries. If one is involved in a DUI, the person must contact a drunk driving attorney to assist with the case.
