A woman allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol while conveying four minors, and crashing into a parked patrol car is facing DUI charges. The almost-deadly occurrence played out on Wednesday morning, May 27, in San Antonio, Texas, and would need the intervention of a drunk driving attorney.
Reporting the incident, police said the two-vehicle collision happened near Loop 410 and Highway 151 before dawn. The accident did not result in the death of any of the involved parties.
The reports affirmed that the woman at fault in the crash, Anabelle Karina Hernandez-Benavidez, 30, was operating an SUV. The vehicle was at the time southbound on Loop 410, conveying the female motorist and four children.
Just as Hernandez-Benavidez approached an area a few miles from Highway 151, she encountered slow-moving traffic, made so by an earlier crash. An officer in a San Antonio Police cruiser parked along the highway was attempting to control the traffic at the time. Detectives said the woman swayed sideways towards the left corner of the road, where she crashed into the parked cruiser.
The impact caused severe damages to the vehicles, leaving the female motorist pinned inside her SUV. Emergency responders rescued the woman from the wreckage and transported her to a hospital for treatment. The officer suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
Meanwhile, all four kids emerged unscathed. Officers released them to their father, who showed up at the crash site a short while later.
Hernandez-Benavidez faces four counts of driving while intoxicated with a minor and would require the services of a drunk driving attorney.
