Three unidentified people were hurt, two of them critically injured, in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2015. The wreck occurred in Boyle Heights, around 4:00 p.m., when a black Ford Explorer flew off the 5 Freeway near the Calzona Street exit, hit a guardrail and then struck a light pole, before finally coming to rest in a resident’s yard, battering the occupants of the SUV with a series of hard blows.

Los Angeles Fire Department responders found a man and a woman critically injured by the violent wreck. They were rushed to the hospital by emergency personnel where they remained in critical condition, while another injured man was listed in fair condition after the dangerous auto accident.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this serious motor vehicle accident, attempting to determine what caused the Explorer to drive off the side of the 5 Freeway. CHP has not yet announced whether the SUV was attempting to avoid some obstacle in the roadway, was forced off the road by another vehicle, or veered off the freeway as the result of driver negligence or driver misconduct. There has been no word, yet, on whether the SUV driver had been drinking alcohol or was driving while impaired by some other substance.

Meanwhile, the families of the two people critically injured in the SUV wreck wait, hoping their loved ones will successfully cling to life.
