Bloomington Truck and Van Collision Kills One, Injures Gabane Abdi

A fatal collision between a van and a semi-truck killed one person and left another two injured. The accident took place on Wednesday, February 26 in the early hours of the morning.

The accident was caused by the icy road conditions. According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, a van traveling westbound on the Interstate 74 lost control due to the slick roadway. As the van lost control, it came into the oncoming traffic’s path in the eastbound. A semi-truck traveling in the eastbound hit the van in a head-on collision.

As a result of the collision, the van driver sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. The identity of the driver has been withheld by the authorities until further investigations are conducted. The driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the collision has been identified as Gabane Abdi, 36, of Mechanicsburg. Abdi sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Apart from the driver of the van, two other passengers were also riding in the vehicle at the time of the crash. These have been identified as Estreberto Gomez-Garcia, 22, and Cesar Andres Remolina-Alvarez, 33.

The collision happened at about 8:06 a.m. close to the mile marker 105. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Investigations are led by the Illinois State Police and it is expected more details will be forthcoming once the investigations conclude. The police is also expected to release the name and details of the driver once the family have been notified.
