A man was killed in a single-car crash in Naperville, Illinois, on Thursday afternoon.
The man, a 65-year-old native of Bolingbrook, was killed when his 2015 Kia Optima, traveling east on Ogden Avenue, veered into opposing lanes and struck a pole. He was trapped inside his vehicle following the crash. After being rescued, he was taken to Edward Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The accident occurred at the entrance to the Fox River Commons Shopping Center. The car was severely damaged, and rubble was strewn across the surrounding area. Following the crash, the westbound lanes of Ogden Avenue were closed for several hours from Fort Hill Drive to Route 59.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, although two narrowly missed being hit. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and it is uncertain why the driver lost control of his vehicle.
