A man who was the subject of a nationwide extradition warrant out of the United States has been arrested in Fountain Hills in Maricopa County, Arizona.

According to court documents, thirty-seven-year-old Rosario Vega was wanted for transporting marijuana into the US.

He was caught when he collided with another car and then crashed into a residential garage on Sunday morning. Reports indicate he was traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour.

The crash occurred near East Palisades and Lago Boulevards, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began when a deputy saw a Chevrolet Impala speeding along Palisades Boulevard near Thistle Drive and began a pursuit. The deputy decided to back off out of fear of endangering the public, given how fast the Impala was traveling.

The Impala later collided with a Chevrolet Silverado. The passengers in the Silverado were not injured. However, the Impala went over a median and destroyed two front yards before crashing into the garage of a Palisades Boulevard home.

Vega suffered broken ribs and a fractured back and was taken to a Scottsdale hospital. He was treated and discharged. Meanwhile, his unidentified female passenger received skull fractures and traumatic brain injuries and was listed in critical condition. She remained hospitalized on Monday.

Court documents say Vega admitted to being the driver of the car when it crashed and he was not impaired.

He now faces charges of aggravated assault with serious physical injury and endangerment. He was jailed without bond and will appear in court on February 13, 18 and 19.
