Husband of Crash Victim Kandi Tucker Says Driver’s Arrest Took Too Long

The family of a Hall County woman who was killed in a head-on collision in Forsyth County is upset about how her case was handled.

Kandi Tucker died on January 23 on State Route 306 at Leland Drive. Eight days later, a driver was charged in connection with the crash.

Kandi’s husband B.J. Tucker said he wanted answers about the moments leading up to her death and an apology concerning what happened after.

Tucker said his wife was driving their eldest daughter to a doctor’s appointment when the accident happened. He said he was on the phone with her and she said a car was coming at her in her lane.

Forsyth County deputies charged 29-year-old Mitchell Brown with homicide by vehicle and driving on the wrong side of the road along with other offenses.

Tucker’s attorney Barbara Cole questioned why it took eight days.

She said she understood the driver had to go to the hospital, but she had seen cases where motorists were arrested immediately.

In a statement, spokeswoman for the county sheriff Stacie Miller said the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit carried out an exhaustive probe that included getting five different search warrants.

She added that even though Brown posted his initial bond, the Sheriff’s Office took him into custody again for violating his probation and he was placed in the Forsyth County Jail.

Meanwhile, Cole pointed out that someone from the sheriff’s office posted a photo on Facebook of Tucker’s vehicle with her body inside in the minutes after the crash.

Tucker said some family members learned about his wife’s death from the post.

The Sheriff’s Office apologized, noting a photo that was taken too close to the scene was posted by error.
