On Wednesday, February 26th, an accident on US 27, Georgia, ended the life of a man. He has been identified as Charles R. Samuels of Cedartown.
The accident that claimed Samuels’ life occurred at Adams Road in front of Meadow Lakes Golf Club. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened in the early hours of the morning at about 5 a.m.
Samuels, who was driving a Honda Accord and heading north, suddenly pulled into the lanes heading south. The move made him hit a tractor-trailer head-on, and the impact caused the latter to turn and collide with another trailer.
The deceased suffered severe injuries and was taken to the Floyd Medical Center. The doctors at the hospital did all they could do for Samuels but pronounced him dead after he succumbed to his injuries at 8:09 a.m.
The GSP has not uncovered the reason the dead man veered off his lane, and they are still investigating the crash. At this time, they have not stated if drugs or alcohol played a role.
The state of Georgia frowns against drivers switching lanes or passing other vehicles without notice. Many accidents occur when drivers go the wrong way or attempt to overtake one another.
To combat this, the state has passed laws to enable drivers to know when it is safe to overtake and eliminate situations that lead to accidents. A driver who overtakes another and causes a collision while at it, is liable for negligence, and will pay a fine if caught.
