A police officer with the Conyers Police Department, Conyers, 22 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, was severely injured in a traffic accident. Officer Earrett Green, on Thursday, March 5th, started the chain of events that led to the crash.
The Georgia State Patrol, in its preliminary report, stated that Officer Green ran a red light at the intersection of Ga. 138 and Flat Shoals Road while driving a police vehicle. GSP added that the man failed to use due regard before driving through the intersection.
Officer Green, who had the official lights of his car on, failed to clear the intersection. It prevented him from seeing the 2013 Ford F-250 heading south of the roadway towards a green light signal.
The Ford ended up hitting the front passenger side of the police vehicle, which sent it into a spin until it struck a 2000 Mazda Protégé. The driver of the latter went unscathed, while the driver of the Ford was transported to Piedmont Rockdale for treatment of minor injuries.
Officer Green, on the other hand, had severe injuries to his lower body and was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. The GSP refused to state the 911 call the injured man was answering that made him run the red light.
They asked that questions about the call be directed to CPD. The investigation into the crash is being handled by troopers from the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
The SCRT has not completed the full accident report and will update the public once they do. No one has been cited in the accident, and there are no charges at this time.
