A native of Newnan, Georgia, lost her life in a car crash at the intersection of Witcher Road and Highway 16, on Sunday, March 8th. Jennifer Heath died after the car she was traveling in had a single-vehicle accident in the early hours of Sunday.
Based on a report by Corporal Scott Tarpley of the Georgia State Patrol, the deceased was traveling in a Mercury Marquis driven by Jimmy Lee Parks, 42. The driver, who survived the crash, failed to stop at the intersection of Witcher Road and Highway 16.
Parks kept driving until he disappeared into the woods, where he crashed the car. Heath was found unresponsive by emergency services personnel at the scene and pronounced dead.
The GSP found narcotics in the wrecked vehicle, and they arrested the driver before taking him to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for treatment of his wounds. Afterwards, Parks was transported to the Coweta County Jail where he was booked and charged.
The driver is facing a DUI charge as well as cocaine possession, tampering with evidence, driving without a license, and driving too fast for conditions. The charges are all criminal in nature, and the penalty includes jail time, a fine, and driving privileges suspension.
The sentence for a DUI charge in Georgia varies with whether the person is a first-time offender or a repeat offender. It determines the severity of the punishment, and whether or not the person would do jail time or probation.
Parks toxicology reports are pending, and he might face more charges depending on the result.
