Fatal Chattooga County Accident Kills Haley Brianna Smith

A Sunday morning accident, March 15th, in Chattooga County, Georgia, sent a young woman to the grave. Haley Brianna Smith, 22, died after the car she was traveling in crashed against another.

According to the Chattooga County Coroner’s Office, Earl Rainwater, the deceased passed away from injuries sustained in the accident at about 9 a.m. The crash occurred precisely on Highway 27, near the Pennville Church of Christ at Greeson Street.

The vehicle Smith collided with had extensive damage, and the driver, a female from Rome, was transported to a hospital by Redmond EMS for treatment. The Sheriff of Chattooga County, Mark Schrader in his statement said the unnamed woman had severe injuries.

The sheriff also said that the Georgia State Patrol responded to the call about the accident, and are heading the investigation. Traffic on the highway was rerouted for several hours to alternative roadways while the GSP concluded its preliminary finding.

The GSP Specialized Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was also at the scene. The authorities have still not figured out what led to the collision, and drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out at the time of this report.

The public will be updated once there is more information, and anyone who witnessed the crash should contact the GSP office in Rome. When an accident occurs, investigators always look for who has the highest liability.

The negligent person under Georgia law is liable to face a criminal trial if there’s injury or death. The person can also face a civil lawsuit if the victim wishes to sue and recover damages.
