Authorities said two people were injured Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on an interstate near Martinsville.
David R. Maxwell, 54, of Aurora, Mo., was driving west on U.S. 70 at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday approaching the Martinsville exit when another vehicle pulled in front of him from the highway’s shoulder, according to a report from the Illinois State Police.
Maxwell’s semi-tractor trailer rear-ended the other truck, which was operated by Michael L. Geensides, 43, of Indianapolis, troopers reported. Maxwell “claimed to have not seen” the other semi “and subsequently rant into” its back, according to the Illinois State Police report.
The crash required shutting down the right lane of traffic in the area while investigators worked on the scene. Both semis were pulling trailers at the time of the collision.
Both Maxwell and Geeensides were transported by ambulance to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind., for treatment of injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, Illinois State Police reported.
Both drivers received citations in connection to the incident. Maxwell was cited for failure to reduce speed, while Geensides was cited with improper parking.
Authorities did not say whether other factors might have contributed to the crash.
