– A woman accused of stealing and subsequently crashing a taxi in Scottsdale earlier this month also faces charges for allegedly biting an off-duty sheriff’s deputy after she was arrested.
Ciara L. Enns, 25, was arrested on charges of vehicle theft, resisting arrest and aggravated assault in connection to the March 14 incident, authorities said this week. It’s unclear whether anyone was injured.
A cab driver reportedly told authorities that he was standing near his vehicle on March 14 when a woman, identified later by authorities as Enns, climbed into the taxi and drove away. The driver alerted Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department deputies and attempted to chase his cab on foot.
Enns then crashed the cab and was detained by the off-duty deputies until Scottsdale police could arrive on scene, according to authorities. Enns allegedly struggled while she was being detained, biting one of them during the struggle, police said.
Local media outlets report that the March 14 incident was not Enns’ first allegedly violent encounter with local authorities. Earlier reports show that Enns in 2017 was convicted of driving under the influence and multiple counts of assault involving law enforcement officers.
Online court records weren’t immediately available.
