Postal Worker Jaynie Underwood Arrested for Hitting Cherokee County Woman With Van

The staff of the US postal service responsible for hitting a resident of Cherokee County, Georgia, has been taken into custody. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday, March 24th, arrested Jaynie Underwood, 38, of Acworth.

According to Captain Jay Baker of the sheriff’s office, the arrested woman knocked down 60-year-old Barbara Daniels, with her mail truck and lied about it. The accident occurred last Wednesday, March 18th.

Baker said deputies were sent to Coleman’s Bluff Drive near Woodstock after receiving a call about a woman lying in the roadway. They found Daniels with severe head trauma and transported her to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.

During preliminary investigation, Underwood told the deputies that she found the injured woman lying face down on the grass as she was driving by. When asked if her mail truck struck Daniels, the woman said no.

The deputies then canvassed the area for witnesses but found nothing concrete. They caught a break when they saw a doorbell camera facing the roadway, and the footage pointed to the mailwoman.

Baker said the footage showed Daniels checking her mailbox, and then taking out the mail before leaving for her daily walk. Underwood’s truck was parked next door, and as she backed out of the driveway, she struck the woman.

The video also showed the mail woman taking Daniels’ mail, and putting it back into the mailbox before calling her supervisor, who called 911. Underwood, upon her arrest, was booked into the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.

The woman is facing charges of improper backing, failure to exercise due care, and one felony count of making false statements. She remains in detention in place of a $3,452 bond.
