The Marietta Police reported that a car-motorcycle accident on Gresham Road overpass in Marietta, Georgia claimed the life of a 63-year-old cyclist on Tuesday, April 14.
The reports suggest that the deceased holds the greater liability in the accident, which rules out the possibility of charges being filed. The fatal victim’s family can, however, consult a motorcycle accident attorney should they decide to file a wrongful death claim.
At about 6 pm on the said day, Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to a traffic incident on Interstate 75.
Preliminary investigations determined that the victim was traveling south on the interstate a 2017 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle. The rider was following closely behind a 2017 Peterbilt box truck, driven by 49-year-old Bennie Demps of Atlanta.
While in transit, the vehicles encountered a traffic jam on the southbound lanes, reportedly caused by an earlier crash which was being attended to by the GSP a few miles away.
The truck slowed down at this point to match the pace of the slow-moving traffic. However, for reasons yet to be determined, the biker, identified as Dennis Wolk, 63, of Cartersville, failed to reduce his speed, or halt, causing him to crash directly into the truck.
Paramedics pronounced Wolk dead at the scene, while Demps emerged from the collision unscathed.
The motorist was not arrested or charged with any offense. The incident is still under investigation.
Witnesses with helpful information were asked to contact the Marietta Police department.
Motorcycle crash victims and their families seek legal counsel from a motorcycle accident attorney to weigh their options and secure a favorable outcome.
