The Gwinnett County Police reported an accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist, Zachary Speir, in Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Georgia. Accident reports revealed that the collision occurred on Saturday, May 9, and involved an SUV.
The police report indicated that the motorcyclist, a resident of Sugar Hill, was speeding before the accident happened.
Speir was riding south on the road when he approached a brown SUV traveling north. The vehicle was about to make a left turn onto South Waterworks. Immediately the SUV began turning, it collided with the motorcycle; this happened shortly before 5 p.m.
Corporal Michele Pihera, a spokeswoman for the police, said that the impact of the collision caused the SUV to roll over and land on its roof. It also ejected the motorcyclist from his bike.
When responding officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced Speir dead. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 64-year-old Buford woman, didn’t sustain serious injuries.
Pihera said that speed was a contributing factor to the crash. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
Accident reports reveal that many preventable crashes occur because of speeding drivers. Thus, motorists must ensure that they do not surpass the speed limit of roads they are traveling on. Patrol officers are always on the lookout for speeding drivers and always caution against such acts.
Motorcyclists must avoid speeding on roads and highways. A motorcycle rider is more vulnerable to road collisions; hence, they must ensure that they ride safely and use protective gear.
