Patrick Defreeuw Killed After Crashing Car Into Chicago Building

Authorities have identified the man who was killed Tuesday evening when he crashed into a building on Chicago’s North Side.

Patrick Defreeuw, 48, died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck, according to the Chicago Police Department. No other injuries were listed in car accident reports, and police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Authorities said Defreeuw was driving in the 3000 block of West Irving Park Road in Albany Park at about 7 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control of his vehicle. Defreeuw’s vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into a light pole and then a building, according to car accident reports.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office declared Defreeuw dead at the scene of the wreck. Authorities did not say whether anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but no additional injuries were reported.

Investigators also said in car accident reports that the crash caused extensive damage to both the car and the building.

Medical examiner’s office officials conducted an autopsy, which confirmed that Defreeuw died as a result of multiple injuries suffered in the crash. Car accident reports list his cause of death as accidental.

The crash is under investigation by the Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit. Authorities have not said whether excessive speeding or intoxication are thought to have contributed to the wreck.
