A 22-year-old Navy veteran and motorcyclist was left with two badly injured legs after a hit-and-run accident that occurred on May 5. Victims in such crashes often seek help from a Georgia car accident lawyer.

Now, a 17-year-old driver is facing a felony charge in connection with the incident that occurred along Queen City Parkway in Gainesville.

Police Corporal Jessica Van said Joshua Gonzalez was making his way home on his motorcycle when a pickup truck made a U-turn and cut in front of him.

The truck, driven by Bryan Lopez, ran over Gonzalez and broke the bones in his legs.

Gonzalez told the media he was thrown into the air and into traffic going the opposite way. He said he ended up under a car and his leg was stuck. One ankle was shattered.

Van said Lopez drove off, but several people saw what happened. Officers got his license plate number and they were able to arrest him about an hour after the accident.

In addition to the felony hit-and-run charge, the teenaged driver is also accused of failing to yield while turning left.

The sheriff’s office said he was released from the Hall County jail on a $5,830 bond the morning after the crash.

Gonzalez said he experienced traumatic events while in the Navy, but the accident caused the most unbearable pain he had ever experienced.

He said it would likely take a year for him to regain full function in his legs.

The veteran said he already had three surgeries and doctors put braces on his legs to straighten them out.

It is not known if he will seek the services of a car accident lawyer.
