Solo Crash in Oconee County Ends The Life of Augustus Smith


In new reports of a car accident that happened over the weekend in Oconee County, Georgia, authorities confirmed the death of a motorist in a solo vehicle crash. Police recorded the incident on Sunday morning, May 17.

The Georgia State Patrol dispatched troopers to the crash site at about 6:20 a.m., on reports of a solo-vehicle crash on Flat Rock Road. A spokesperson for the GSP, Lt Stephanie Stallings said the victim was the only casualty recorded in the crash.

Initial reports showed the involved vehicle was a 1999 Ford pickup driven by 20-year-old Augustus Stephen Smith of Watskinville. The truck was traveling through the east lanes on Flat Rock when for unknown reasons, it drifted off the roadway.

According to the reports, the truck flipped over and crashed into a tree located off the road. Medics accompanying the patrol troopers pronounced the motorist dead at the scene. Officers believe he was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The accident reports did not reveal whether impairment by drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal collision. No additional detail is available at this time.

The cause of the deadly occurrence remains under investigation.
