A traffic wreck reported this week in Carlock, Illinois, caused a major disruption of highway traffic for hours after a vehicle left the road and overturned. Accident reports provided by the Illinois State Police confirmed it happened late at night on Tuesday, May 19.
Officers responded to the crash shortly after 10:30 p.m. on reports of a semi-trailer truck lying on its side near milepost 118 west of Carlock. Woodford County authorities said a 63-year-old Raymond man was behind the wheels of the trailer, and no other vehicle was involved in the wreck.
Investigations carried out at the scene showed the man, identified as Vladimer Karpov, of Raymond, Nebraska, was driving the big rig along I-74. He was westbound on the right lane, at an undisclosed speed. For reasons yet undetermined, his vehicle drifted right, went off the road and overturned, before coming to rest on its side. Karpov emerged from the wreck unscathed.
The accident reports did not state if anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash; however, no record of any casualty is available at this time.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to have contributed to the crash, as no one got arrested, nor was the motorist cited for any traffic violation.
Following the crash, the Illinois State Police shut down parts of the westbound lanes on Interstate 74. The closure lasted through Wednesday until the roads reopened at about 5:15 a.m.
