Driver Killed in I-75 Monroe County Crash Identified as Daniel Patrick Diehl

Matthew Strudwick

Authorities have identified Daniel Patrick Diehl as the driver killed in a crash on Interstate 75, north of Mortar Creek Road, Monroe County, Michigan. Accident reports show that the collision occurred on Tuesday, May 26.

Initial investigations carried out by the police revealed that Diehl, 45, was driving a white 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up, and heading south on I-75. He kept to the interstate’s right lane. A 2018 Freightliner, blue, and driven by a 29-year-old Brampton man was also traveling at a low speed on the road, ahead of Diehl’s vehicle.

For reasons unknown, the Chevrolet struck the Freightliner from behind, causing both vehicles to come to rest in the right travel lane. Diehl was pinned underneath his truck and died as a result. The Freightliner driver didn’t incur any injuries after the crash. Authorities reported that both drivers were in their seatbelts when the accident happened.

Investigations also determined that speed was not a factor in the crash, though it remains unknown if alcohol played a role in it. The Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division responded to the collision. They were ably assisted by the Monroe Community Ambulance and the Monroe Township Fire Department.

Investigations into the crash remain ongoing. Deputy Sheriffs Alec Preadmore, Paul Galloro, and Jon Cregar of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Bureau are in charge. Deputy Ryan Eyler of the Uniform Services Division is assisting them, per accident reports. If anyone has any information about the crash, they should call at 734-240-7541.
