The accident report placed the time of the accident at about 8:08 p.m. on Eisenhower Expressway in west suburban Forest Park. The Illinois State Police said that Rivera rode west on a 2011 Harley Davidson before veering onto the left shoulder of the roadway and striking the median near Des Plaines Avenue.

Motorcycle collisions are as frequent as motor vehicle accidents, and the factors contributing to the two are similar. The same road rules apply to a motorcyclist and a motorist; thus, the two must obey traffic rules and regulations, and promote safety while on the road.

A motorcycle rider involved in a solo or auto-motorcycle collision is more likely to suffer fatal wounds than a driver of a vehicle. Therefore, the motorcyclist must go the extra mile to prevent an accident and preserve his or her life. In doing this, a biker should not drink and operate a bike, wear a helmet certified by the US-Department of Transportation and safety apparel, ride defensively, and carry out safety checks when preparing to ride and after.
