A man died after his car crashed early Sunday morning, August 30th, on the southwest side of Tucson, Arizona. The accident report disclosed the victim’s identity as Peter Cupis, 57.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said that deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on West Valencia Road at South Beehive Avenue, about two miles south of Casino Del Sol. Cupis was westbound on the roadway when he struck a rock embankment.

The sheriff’s department said the victim sustained severe wounds and died at the scene. The accident led to the closure of Valencia Road as deputies investigated and cleared the scene. There is no additional information.

Motor vehicle accidents, no matter the type, occur either due to motorists’ negligence or unforeseen circumstances on the roadway. Drivers can mitigate crashes by obeying traffic rules and regulations and following safety tips released by law enforcement and traffic agencies from time to time.

When driving, pull into traffic slowly; stop, look, and listen and be aware of blind spots, especially that of big vehicles like semi-trucks or trailers. When making a right-hand turn at an intersection, look in both directions at least twice as cars can appear out of nowhere.

Watch out for red-light runners, and look closely to ensure that no one is trying to speed through a yellow light. Reduce in-car distractions and keep at least one hand on a steering wheel, watch out for kids and animals as they have a habit of showing up suddenly, and perform regular engine maintenance.
