Two children and their parents sustained serious injuries in a crash that occurred near Wellton on Tuesday, September 1 as per the initial accident reports. Authorities identified the victims of the accident the next day on Wednesday, September 2. The victims were identified as parents Jason Parfait and Diana Garcia, their two-year old boy Chase Sixkiller and his eight-year old sister Daimiani Sixkiller.
The family was traveling in a Honda Civic on the I-8 close to Wellton when another vehicle collided into them from the rear. The other vehicle was identified as a Mercedes and it sped away from the scene of the crash.
All four members of the family sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Of the two children, one suffered broken legs while the other had no major injuries to report. Diana Garcia sustained critical injuries and remained in intensive care where she is yet to stabilize. Jason Parfait had a broken shoulder and head trauma caused by the incident. However, his condition is reported as stable.
The Mercedes which rear-ended the Honda Civic had a driver and two passengers in it at the time. As it fled the scene, it was chased down by the troopers. The occupants of the vehicle then attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended.
The driver of the Mercedes currently faces four charges of aggravated assault involving serious injury and another charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. He is due to appear before a judge next week and subsequent accident reports may reveal the punishment he receives for these charges.
