The Illinois State Police on Friday, October 2nd, released details of a fatal car crash on Interstate 474 in Peoria County, Illinois. The Thursday, October 1st, occurrence claimed the life of an 18-year-old teenager identified as Trenton Mitchell of Mackinaw.

The Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood pronounced the victim dead at the crash site. The preliminary car accident report disclosed that the teenager was eastbound on I-474 near milepost 3 in a black 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche.

The ISP said that he exited the roadway suddenly to the left and struck the bridge abutment. The report indicated that Mitchell crossed the center median and entered oncoming traffic, where a maroon 2017 Freightliner truck tractor flatbed trailer struck his vehicle’s passenger side.

The collision happened as the victim crossed the westbound lane of the interstate, and as the driver of the Freightliner, 23-year-old Ian Aasen of Searcy, Arizona, headed in the same direction. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and medics used a land ambulance to convey him to the hospital for treatment.

The state police’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the crash and helped with the investigation. The inquiry is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
