A man from the South Side of Chicago lost his life in a vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in the southwest suburban Oak Forest area of Illinois. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Roosevelt M. Logan, 23, of Longwood Manor died at the scene on Tuesday, October 14th.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 11:20 p.m. on the southbound interstate near Cicero Avenue. The car accident report released by the Illinois State Police showed that the other person involved in the accident suffered life-threatening injuries.
The report failed to state what led to the accident or the vehicle Logan traveled with before the crash. The state police said they closed all southbound lanes for investigation and diverted traffic to 167th until after 5:10 a.m.
Vehicle collisions are not uncommon, and they can have minor, severe, or fatal consequences. Preventing crashes is not tricky if individuals follow driving rules, maintain their lanes, and prioritize safety above all else.
Drivers should expect other persons on the road to make mistakes, and as such, exercise due care and caution when traveling. When driving behind other vehicles, leave at least four seconds space, and avoid overtaking if the space is not enough.
When traveling on a two-lane roadway that allows parking on the right, stay in the middle to allow any driver trying to exit their car to open their doors safely. This would prevent swerving to avoid an open door and ultimately prevent losing control of the vehicle.
