The Tucson Police Department has named the victim of Wednesday’s two-vehicle crash along Interstate 10 Frontage Road and 29th Street in Arizona.
He is 63-year-old Irenio Parra-Neriz.
Investigators said he was ejected from his Ford F-150 pickup truck after the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup failed to stop at a red light.
That driver collided with Parra-Neriz’s vehicle. A police release said Parra-Neriz was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to Banner University Medical Center. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police say Parra-Neriz was going westbound on 29th Street and he entered the Frontage Road intersection when he got a green light.
The other driver traveled toward the intersection, neglected to stop at a red light, and crashed into Parra-Neriz’s vehicle at a high speed.
Investigators determined that Parra-Neriz was not wearing a seatbelt.
Neither vehicle was carrying passengers.
Detectives in the Tucson Police Department’s traffic unit are still investigating the accident. As of Friday, they had not issued any charges or citations.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe account has been set up by Parra-Neriz’s son Damian Lomas-Arment. He said the family doesn’t have the necessary funds for a funeral.
He described the accident victim as a “father figure, grandfather, and uncle” who was a devoted Christian. He said his father was humble, he worked hard for his family and he was on his way to work when he became involved in the crash.
Lomas-Arment said Parra-Neriz still had a lot of life to live and he cared a lot about other people.
