Martez Lyle Begay Arrested for Causing Death of Female Cyclist in Phoenix Crash

A suspected DUI collision between a truck and a motorcycle on 20th Street in Phoenix, Arizona, left a 30-year-old female cyclist fatally injured. The suspect has been arrested by the police following the incident on Thursday night, April 23, and may need to involve a drunk driving attorney.

The fatal collision took place at about 9:24 pm, just south of Highland Avenue, as per police reports.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by 23-year-old Martez Lyle Begay, was southbound on 20th Street.

At the same time, the fatal victim was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle through the north travel lanes on the highway.

Just as the motorist attempted a left-hand turn onto a private drive on Highland Avenue, the pickup struck the motorcycle head-on, knocking its rider off the bike.

The 30-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed, suffered multiple life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.

Begay and his sole passenger, a 37-year-old male, were not injured in the traffic wreck. The accident reports confirmed that the driver displayed behaviors suggestive of impairment. Field sobriety tests carried out on him revealed a blood/alcohol content of 0.195.

He was taken into police custody and subsequently booked into Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of DUI-alcohol causing death.

The passenger in the car cooperated with law enforcement and was released.

Anyone involved in a DUI-related accident is advised to contact an experienced drunk driving attorney for representation.
