Police Arrest Haley Ohmsatte for Involvement in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Tucson

The services of a motorcycle accident attorney are essential after investigators with the Tucson Police Department arrested a 16-year-old girl, Haley S. Ohmsatte, on Tuesday, May 19. The teenager’s arrest was due to her involvement in a fatal multi-vehicle collision on the northwest side of Tucson, Arizona.

Police revealed that the suspect is held at the Pima County Jail. The charges against her include aggravated assault, endangerment, criminal damage, leaving the scene of an accident, and auto theft.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, May 13. Following an investigation, eyewitnesses said that Ohmsatte was driving north on Camino de la Tierra in a white 2017 Lincoln vehicle. She approached a blue 2017 Toyota Camry near the intersection of west Tres Nogales Road.

The suspect attempted to overtake the Camry in a no-passing zone. At the same time, this was happening, a silver 1999 Mercedes Benz passenger car was traveling southbound in the same area. Ohmsatte swerved her vehicle back to the right, rear-ending the Camry.

This caused the Camry to spin out of control, after which it side-swiped the Mercedes. The suspect continued driving north on Camino de la Tierra and came behind a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. She rear-ended the bike, pushing it 75 yards until its rider, David M. Wampole, 61, broke free.

Police reports state that Ohmsatte got out of her vehicle and fled from the scene on foot, but was found soon after. Crews with the Northwest Fire District arrived quickly and rushed the victim to Banner University Medical Center. He died from his injuries on Tuesday, May 19.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle Ohmsatte drove was reported stolen shortly before the crash happened. Evidence at the scene and reports from witnesses also indicated that excessive speed was a factor in the fatal collision.

Investigations remain ongoing, while authorities will file additional charges against Ohmsatte through the Pima County attorney’s office. The suspect needs a motorcycle accident lawyer to help with her case.
