The Maricopa Police Department has released an update on the ATV crash that occurred last week on Honeycutt Road, in the Maricopa region of Arizona. According to updated accident reports released on Tuesday, April 28, the crash involved two vehicles, contrary to initial reports that suggested the victim was injured in a solo crash.
The incident took place at about 7:30 pm on Thursday, April 23, in the area of Honeycutt Road and Glennwilde. The new reports ascertained that the accident, which left an impaired man injured, involved an all-terrain vehicle and a Honda Civic.
The injured victim, identified by the police as Arturo Bandin, of Maricopa, reportedly left his residence in an ATV, while under the influence of alcohol, prompting family members to alert the police to seek him out.
As part of the search procedure, officers were interviewing relatives in their homes when they got a distress call reporting a solo ATV crash near the Glennwilde subdivision.
Police arrived at the location shortly after and recognized Arturo Bandin almost immediately from previous encounters. The ATV rider was bleeding from his head and limbs when they found him, but he was alert.
After interrogating him, the accident victim was transported to Chandler Regional Medical Center for treatment, after which he was arrested on a federal warrant.
Meanwhile, the operator of the Honda told responding officers that she was westbound on Honeycutt Road when she attempted a left turn onto the Glennwilde subdivision. Before she completed the turn, the speeding ATV, which had no lights on collided with her vehicle. Neither the motorist nor her male passenger was harmed in the wreck, the accident reports confirmed.
Toxicology results ordered on Brandin would determine whether DUI-related charges would be filed.
