A former El Paso police detective was killed in a crash near Bylas, Arizona on Sunday. He has been identified as 51-year-old Richard B. Allbee.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:19 p.m. on US 70 at the bridge west of Bylas.
Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety said a Ford truck traveling westbound drove left of the center line and collided head-on with Allbee’s Chevrolet truck.
Allbee died at the scene while his unnamed female passenger and the male driver of the Ford were transported to Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson. The nature of their injuries was not revealed.
Authorities said they suspected some type of impairment caused the crash. However, investigations are continuing into the accident.
The crash forced the closure of the eastbound lane for more than four hours.
In a Facebook post, the Third Battalion of the 133rd Field Artillery of the Texas Army National Guard said its members were saddened to hear of Allbee’s tragic death.
He was a former command sergeant major of that battalion.
The Gunslingers Battalion Command Team, soldiers and staff sent their heartfelt condolences to Allbee’s family and friends.
This was the second fatal accident to occur in Bylas on Highway 70 in the last eight days. A February 1 crash resulted in the death of three people.
A passenger vehicle that was traveling westbound crossed the center line and collided with a semi-truck.
Isaiah Boni, 32, and Michaelena Wilson, 30, both of Bylas, died along with 36-year-old Francisco Guerrero of Globe.
