Stephen Nolan Arrested For Alleged Dui Crash In Gresham That Killed Passenger

A Cook County man faces multiple charges for his role in a fatal crash Sunday evening in a village on Chicago’s South Side, authorities reported this week.

Twenty-six-year-old Stephen Nolan, of Schaumburg, was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and reckless homicide, according to the Chicago Police Department. Authorities said he was intoxicated when he crashed into a utility pole, killing his passenger.

Nolan and his drunk driving attorney were set to appear in a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon, according to online records.

Police said Nolan was driving north in the 8500 block of South Halstead Street at about 7 p.m. when he encountered stopped traffic. Nolan allegedly swerved into the southbound lanes in an attempt to get around traffic.

Nolan ultimately lost control of his vehicle, crashing it into a utility pole, according to investigators. Nolan’s passenger, 26-year-old Caleb White, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities said Nolan also was taken to an area hospital for observation and testing for possible intoxication. He was arrested on charges of aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide and he received citations for not having a license and failure to reduce speed, authorities reported.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

The felony charges Nolan faces carry significant prison terms upon conviction. Accordingly, Nolan will need to obtain the services of a drunk driving attorney, if he has not already done so.
