Rear End Crash on I-5 Closed 2 Lanes of Traffic

At around 6 a.m. Wednesday Morning in Irvine, a dark colored automobile rear ended a SUV on I-5 during a traffic halting automobile accident. Both vehicles were traveling northbound when the collision occurred just South of Sand Canyon Avenue. Two lanes were blocked as tow trucks cleared the roadway and authorities investigated the scene. At least one person was taken to a local area hospital after the wreck.

The extents of the injuries were not known at press time, but the accident itself was large enough to snarl traffic for hours making the commute a nightmare for motorists. Although little is known about the condition of the person taken to the hospital, one can never take it for granted that they are okay following such a collision.  Even some individuals who appear to be fine can develop severe complications, like progressive brain injury, after being released from the hospital.
