Reedley Police Detain and Release John Mathison after Chase Ends in a Crash

A man who took the officers in the Reedley area of California, on a chase on Monday, May 25th, would need a top accident lawyer’s service. Forty-one-year-old John Mathison, of Kingsburg, was detained and released on the same day due to the no-bail policy of the state.

The Fresno County Jail Spokesperson, Tony Botti, said in a press release that they booked the suspect into the jail at about 5 p.m. They released him three hours later at around 8 p.m. Mathison is facing charges of obstructing an officer, evading police, and crashing his vehicle, which resulted in another person’s injury.

The man’s bail in the absence of California’s zero-dollar bail policy would have been $120,000. Botti noted that Mathison’s offense began with him taking deputies on a high-speed chase while intoxicated. The police pursued the suspect until he struck a car driven by an unnamed female, and his vehicle ended up in an orchard.

The impact of the crash left the woman trapped, and emergency responders had to work to free the motorist. A deputy tried to get John Mathison to exit his vehicle, but the man kept drinking and used offensive words at the officer.

The lawman was finally able to get the suspect out and arrested him. Botti said that further investigation revealed that on Sunday, May 17th, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man for obstructing an officer and waving a machete near his girlfriend.

He was cited for two misdemeanors and released due to the no-bail policy. The suspect’s court date is set for sometime in July, and a top accident lawyer would be useful.
