Joy Lambert, 55, Killed In Accident By Suspect Fleeing Police In Winnebago County

After a pursuit was terminated by Winnebago County Sheriff deputies just after 8 am on Monday, a fleeing suspect caused a collision that took the life of 55 year old Joy Lambert.

When officers observed the suspect’s vehicle speeding, they attempted to pull the driver over. When the vehicle fled, deputies pursued until the chase was deemed too unsafe to continue. After terminating the pursuit, the driver continued recklessly towards the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Cunningham Road in Rockford — a half mile from the end of the chase.

The suspect’s car struck Lambert’s Buick Century, ejecting her from the vehicle and killing her instantly. Witnesses described the collision looking like “A snowball hitting a brick wall.”

The driver of the fleeing vehicle and a female passenger were treated for injuries, though their names were not released. Deputies also reported recovering a bag of heroin from the driver’s pocket.
