Geordon Pollette, a 23-year-old man from Aguanga, California died in a head-on collision near Temecula. California Highway Patrol says the accident occurred about 12:20 a.m. on Friday, January 3. Matteo Monica, 50, of San Diego, crossed double-yellow lines to pass a slower vehicle, and caused the wrong way crash.
Monica was eastbound on Route 79 just west of Pauba Road in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer. He accelerated into the westbound lane. Pollette was travelling in a 2004 Kia Rio driven in that lane by Becki Teague, 59, also of Aguanga.
The vehicles collided, and Monica’s car caught fire. Pollette, in the front passenger seat of Teague’s vehicle, suffered massive trauma. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Paramedics took Teague to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where she is in serious condition. Both Teague and Monica suffered major injuries in this highly avoidable wrong way crash.
