Thirty-three-year-old Julius Black was killed on Sunday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree.
This was confirmed in accident reports from Atlanta police.
The crash, which didn’t involve any other vehicles, happened about 11 p.m. at Decatur Street in the area of Jesse Hill Jr. Drive in southeast Atlanta.
It was not immediately clear if Black died at the scene or if he was taken to hospital.
Black was one of 15 people killed in motor vehicle accidents over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Many of the crashes involved motorcycles but in most cases, investigators believe other drivers were at fault.
Lt. Stephanie Stallings with the Georgia State Patrol said because of social distancing requirements, officials expected a quieter weekend.
However, there were only two fewer deaths than in the previous year since drivers took advantage of the pleasant weather.
Fatal crashes were reported throughout the state and they were investigated by troopers as well as police in Gwinnett County, Atlanta, Cobb County, and Forest Park.
The survivors of the victims may seek advice and representation from a wrongful death lawyer.
Troopers responded to 317 accident reports this year compared to 396 in 2019. GSP said the accidents resulted in 188 injuries.
Meanwhile, troopers arrested 317 people who were accused of driving under the influence.
In addition, 9 536 citations were issued along with 9,714 warnings.
The holiday period ran for 78 hours from Friday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 11:59 p.m.
