On Sunday, March 8th, in Calhoun, Georgia, a cyclist, John Graves, sustained severe injuries during a cycling race. The young man, who is the son of Georgia State 14th District representative, Tom Graves, was competing in the Calhoun Downtown Criterium.
In a press statement released by the senior Graves, he said that John is a member of Georgia Tech’s cycling team. After the accident, the young man was airlifted to the trauma care of an unnamed hospital where he received treatment.
Tom stated that his son remains in intensive care, and described him as a strong boy, who will make a full recovery. John is being cared for by a top-notch team of doctors and medical professionals, and his father is grateful for the public’s love and support.
Cycling accidents are not very common, but when it happens, several factors contribute to it. They include, vehicles driving into the path of cyclists, or drivers failing to see the cyclist ahead of changing lanes.
Bad roads, reckless cycling, road rash, or soft tissue injuries also contribute to cycling accidents. The injuries sustained from this kind of accident ranges from severe to minor, but there are usually few fatalities.
