A vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident in the Chattooga County of the State of Georgia claimed the life of a pedestrian in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3. The county’s Sheriff department and the Georgia State Patrol have set out to investigate the incident.
Investigations have revealed the deceased to be a local, identified as Chris “Slim” Lewis, who was in his mid-40s. As reported, the victim was on his way to work on a dark, rainy morning, when he got hit by a moving vehicle and killed, a few miles from Hwy. 27.
The incident happened on John Jones road, in the Gore community, about half a mile from the highway. The driver of the assailing vehicle admitted to having hit the local pedestrian as a result of the unfavourable weather conditions, which prevented them from seeing him beforehand.
The Chattooga County Sheriff, Mark Schrader, also attested to the driver’s claim, reporting that indeed it was dark, with the rain pouring down heavily in the early hours of Tuesday morning when the incident occurred.
The deceased was said to have been an employee of one of the Gore community residents, living on John Jones road, not far from the scene of the accident.
The family of the demised pedestrian has been notified of the incident, but the driver’s identity was not revealed to the public.
Investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing as information gathered at the scene is inconclusive.
