A college student at the University of Georgia lost his life in an accident at Athens-Clarke County, Georgia. The accident happened in the early hours of Friday, February 28th, and the deceased got identified as Martell Rashea Robinson, 18, of Columbus.

The deceased was involved in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 5:45 a.m. According to the Athens-Clarke County Police, the accident happened precisely at Pulaski Street and West Broad Street.

Robinson was heading south in his 2000 Toyota Camry on Pulaski Street. When he got to the intersection that connects it to broad street, he failed to stop and crashed into a wall at the southern end of the intersection.

The deceased was not wearing his seat belt when the crash happened, and he sustained extensive injuries. The college student got taken to the hospital, where he later died from his wounds.

Robinson was the only person in the Toyota when the accident happened, and no other vehicle was involved. Authorities have not ruled out the presence of drugs and alcohol, and they are still investigating what led to the accident.

The police stated that this is the second fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County this year. Accidents are caused mostly by the negligence of drivers and disobedience of traffic rules.

Traffic officials have advised drivers to obey traffic signs and lights for their safety and that of other road users. Anyone caught breaking the rules gets a ticket and a fine, and when an accident occurs, they face either a civil or criminal lawsuit.
