The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Savannah Police Force is currently investigating a two-car accident that took place in the early morning of February 20. Reports indicate that the accident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 16 in Savannah.
38-year-old Tashard Benton was traveling west on I-16 when his Hyundai Santa Fe broke down in a travel lane. Benton was forced to stop the vehicle and he then turned on the emergency flashers. Shortly thereafter, another vehicle traveling in the same lane was unable to stop in time and struck Benson’s car from behind. Benson’s condition was not disclosed.
The driver of the second car, a Chevrolet Spark, has been identified as 35-year-old Dennis Wisner. Wisner sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local hospital. At this time, his condition is also unknown.
This is an ongoing investigation by Savannah’s Traffic Investigation Unit. At the time of the report, it is unknown why Wisner failed to stop his vehicle in time. It is also unknown whether any charges have been filed against Wisner. All areas of distracted driving will be investigated and will be updated as the Traffic Investigation Unit releases additional information.
