Family Mourns the Death of Minor, Cason Harris, Killed in Thomasville Accident

A family in Thomasville, Georgia, was thrown into mourning on Monday, March 9th, when they lost a child to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident. 3-year-old, Cason Harris, died after a vehicle leaving the driveway of his family home struck him.

The accident happened on Augusta Road, and a report by Thomasville Police showed that the boy died on the scene from the injuries he sustained. Harris’ grandmother, Faye Wright, told the police that a family member was backing out of the driveway and didn’t see the little boy.

Wright described the crash as an accident, saying Harris ran out of the house unexpectedly. She said the little boy was a smart child who was full of life and enjoyed spending time with his family.

The grandmother added that the deceased was the center of her world, and asked the public to send love and prayers to her family. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the Georgia State Patrol is heading it.

When an accident occurs, different liabilities arise depending on the negligence of the offending driver. It can be civil or criminal, depending on who is instituting an action.

When the state brings a suit after an accident, it is usually criminal. The standard charges that arise when a pedestrian gets hit are hit-and-run when the driver flees, suspicion of DUI when the motorist drives under the influence, and vehicular manslaughter when there’s a death.

When a private individual brings a suit, it is either a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit depending on the circumstances of the case. Criminal convictions lead to imprisonment and fines, while civil leads to remuneration.
