Fatal Cherokee Crash Claims the Life of Motorist Robert McCollum

An accident on the morning of Monday, March 23rd, in Cherokee County, Georgia, claimed the life of a man. The authorities identified him as a 52-year-old man from Canton, Robert McCollum.

The deceased died from severe injuries sustained after his car struck a tree and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. on East Cherokee Drive, with McCollum heading west in a Kia Soul vehicle.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said that the driver went off the roadway for unknown reasons and accidentally went through all the traffic lanes until he struck a tree. McCollum ended up in the middle of the eastbound traffic, where he got hit by a vehicle near South Sequoya Drive.

Paramedics transported the man to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds despite the best effort of doctors. The driver of the other car, who remains unidentified, was not injured.

There is no information on whether or not the police cited the driver, and the sheriff’s office is keeping the investigation into the crash open in the meantime.

Accidents are a regular occurrence in California, and the issue of liability always arises after a crash. According to traffic authorities, determining the person with the highest negligence helps prosecutors charge the right person.

Traffic authorities have also stated that when the accident is caused by a defect in the road or vehicle, then the liability does not lie with the driver. In that case, the city or the manufacturer of the car would bear the responsibility and make restitution.
