A man has been arrested in Monroe County, Georgia, after his vehicle wrecked a series of patrol cruisers while fleeing law enforcement. The accident reports obtained confirmed the arrest, which took place on Saturday, April 11.
Officers said the incident began when a deputy stopped the motorist, who was northbound on Interstate 75 and asked him to pull over upon realizing he did not have a tag.
When the driver complied, the officer reportedly got a whiff of marijuana and requested suspect to alight from the vehicle. The motorist sped off immediately, rather than oblige the patrol officer.
Georgia State Patrol troopers were alerted of the fleeing motorist and joined the pursuit. Troopers. The driver, later identified as Furquan Muhammad, was eventually intercepted after he rear-ended a police cruiser, near mile marker 213.
The collision resulted in a chain-reaction crash that left three other patrol cars, and a deputy’s vehicle severely dented.
Officers discovered four juveniles, between the ages of nine-weeks-old and fifteen years, inside Muhamad’s car. None of the occupants in the fleeing vehicle was harmed; however, two GSP troopers sustained injuries and were hospitalized at Piedmont Henry Hospital.
The suspect’s license revealed that he had an outstanding probation warrant in Bibb County. Police found a gun, Xanax pills, 10 ounces of marijuana, and $2000 cash in his possession, as confirmed in the accident reports.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony fleeing, 4 counts of reckless conduct, unauthorized possession of a gun, possessing a gun while committing a felony, and several traffic offenses.
