A 27-year-old woman from Chatsworth, Georgia, Halei Turner, died in a crash on Prater Mill Road in Dalton, on Tuesday, May 5. Accident reports obtained from the Georgia State Patrol revealed that the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. near Millstone Drive.
A spokeswoman for the Georgia State Patrol, Franka Young, reported that the accident involved a 2005 Toyota 4Runner and a 2014 Nissan Maxima. Halei Turner drove the 4Runner, while a 31-year-old woman, Sara Creech of Dalton, drove the Nissan Maxima.
The 4Runner was heading east on the road while trying to negotiate a curve. At the same time, the Maxima was heading west and also trying to negotiate the same curve.
Turner’s Toyota hit the front of Creech’s Nissan, causing both vehicles to spin. The deceased wasn’t wearing her seat belt when the collision occurred, so she was ejected from her car. She died at the scene of the accident.
Paramedics rushed to the scene of the crash and airlifted Creech to Erlanger Hospital to receive treatment on the injuries she sustained. Another person, a 34-year-old man from Tunnel Hill, was also hurt in the accident. An ambulance came and took him to the same hospital.
According to accident reports, the crash is still under investigation, and more information will be available after findings are complete.
Seat belts prevent harmful movements that may occur during a collision and are necessary safety devices in a car. Drivers and passengers in a vehicle must wear seat belts once they are in transit.
