Around 6:42 p.m. on Thursday 27 February, a car in Augusta, Georgia crashed into a tree, killing a 6-year-old boy. The crashed vehicle was travelling west on the 1000 block of Horseshoe Road when it went off the road and crashed into a tree in a yard.

The fatal accident claimed the life of 6-year-old Labarron Wright. The impact of the car’s collision against the tree caused the boy to be ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Augusta University Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m.

An investigation began, and the Coroner’s Office moved Wright’s body to the GBI lab for an autopsy.

Car crashes involving children occur more frequently than most people think. These simple steps could help save a child’s life.

Make sure everyone wears a seat belt, including you. It is not enough to tell your ward to use the belt. You have to lead by example.

Little kids stay in the back. Yes, the front seats have airbags. According to research, airbags can suffocate your ward. The back seat is the safest place for them.

Drive carefully. This is a general rule regardless of whether you have a child in the vehicle or not.  Be cautious of other road users.

Obey all traffic rules. Traffic rules are designed to ensure the safety of all motorists. Obey the traffic lights and do not go over the maximum limit.

Never drink and drive. If you are going to drive, do not consume alcohol or drugs. Keep a clear head when you are behind the wheels.
