Identity of Fatal Albany Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash Victim Revealed as John Daniel Thompson

Updated accident reports released on Thursday, May 28, has unveiled the real identity of a man killed earlier this week in a vehicle-pedestrian crash in Albany, Georgia. The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office said John Daniel Thompson, 75, died in the crash.

Initial reports named the Following who died as 75-year-old Ed Muller. Following investigations, however, new details regarding the victim unfolded. Detectives gathered that the fatal victim, who died early on Wednesday morning, May 27, on Sylvester Road, was using a fake identification at the time of his death.

According to the reports, the victim was attempting to cross the road to the other side of the street when an oncoming semi-truck ran him over. The fatal encounter happened right in front of the Cooper Tire Plant, opposite Kitty’s Flea Market.

The pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the fatal collision, the Albany Police Department said in the reports. Witnesses notified authorities about the incident shortly after 6 a.m.. and an investigation into the mishap commenced.

Contrary to the initial accident reports, authorities discovered that Ed Muller died several years ago, and Thompson had been using a fake ID. They made the discovery during the investigations, and while trying to locate his next of kin.

Authorities later found that the victim had a criminal history, which may have prompted him to adopt the fake identity.

The incident is still under investigation.
