James William Odom Confirmed Dead in Burke County’s Propane Truck Crash

Burke County Sheriff has confirmed the death of James William Odom in a related propane truck crash on Friday, 28 February. The 65-year-old truck driver lost his life in what authorities are calling a “medical emergency.”

Preliminary investigation revealed the propane truck had gone off the highway for an extended period, during which there were no signs that the truck brakes were applied.

The truck reportedly crashed on Highway 56 South about a half mile south of Edmund Burke Academy. The accident shut down both directions of the highway.

The County Sheriff’s Office & Burke EMA Fire & Rescue responded to the accident in a bid to recuse the driver on time, but their efforts were futile.

Truck accidents are common on highways and interstates and pose a risk to motorists and pedestrians. Their sheer size and cargo can cause property damage and inflict severe injuries on victims.

When a truck driver or truck company is reckless, unsuspecting motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are exposed to extensive and unnecessary injuries and loss of life.

If you find yourself involved in a truck accident, do not panic. First, ensure you are safe and help others if you can. Reach out to law enforcement agents and ensure you have a copy of the report. Call for an ambulance and fire services if necessary. Do not attempt to flee the scene.

Also, ensure you have the services of a reputable attorney before you discuss the incident with others. An attorney will inform you of your rights and your legal options.
